As a Paramedic Education Coordinator, you will assist the Director in the coordination, implementation and ongoing evaluation of the Paramedic Education Program and EMT Program at Akron General Hospital.
**A caregiver in this position works varying shifts between 8:00am - 10:00pm, but the primary shift is 8:00am - 4:30pm.**
A caregiver who excels in this role will:
+ Coordinate, develop, and evaluate current and new in-hospital and field EMS clinical rotations.
+ Maintain a liaison role between the Paramedic Education Program and in-hospital and field EMS preceptors.
+ Evaluate effectiveness of clinical documentation forms utilized.
+ Make recommendations for improvements on clinical rotations obtained from literature research on education methods used in other paramedic curriculums.
+ Develop and implement annual preceptor training for all clinical and field preceptors.
+ Track completion of preceptor training in Platinum Planner.
+ Track and document student clinical status and provide updates to staff on student clinical progress.
+ Identify students who are deficient clinically and counsel them as necessary.
+ Coordinate, develop and evaluate lab sessions for the Paramedic Education Program.
+ Track student progress and ensure proper sequencing as required by accreditation standards.
+ Conduct a clinical orientation with students at the beginning of every EMT and Paramedic course.
+ Hold student clinical progress conferences on a per phase basis.
+ Review student field documentation quality and preceptor comments.
+ Make visits to hospital clinical and field internship experience areas to discuss progress with clinical preceptors.
+ Submit a report to the program director on a per phase basis which summarizes student clinical progress and any clinical experience area issues.
+ Provide the program director with student clinical probation recommendations as required.
+ Assist with grading of written examinations.
+ Make recommendations for revisions to didactic and clinical evaluation documents and methods for improvement.
+ Maintain computer files on student didactic performance and compile student grade transcripts at end of each year.
+ Conduct tutoring sessions with students as required to improve didactic and/or clinical deficiencies, or upon request of the students and monitor student performance post-tutoring session to determine effectiveness and need for further tutoring.
+ Together with other PME staff members, develop improvements to educational performance measurement devices such as tests and quizzes.
+ Fill a role as a primary lecturer for both didactic and clinical instruction.
+ Develop, coordinate and evaluate the Emergency Medical Technician Program under the auspice of the Paramedic Education Program to include scheduling of classes, recruitment of students, scheduling of instructors, test development and evaluation, and instruction as needed for each course offered.
+ Participate in pre-hospital fire service-related activities which enhance the credibility of the instruction provided within the Paramedic and EMT Program.
+ Instruct ACLS, PALS, and BLS courses as needed to meet the needs of the program, organization and community.
+ Serve as the course coordinator for an online anatomy and physiology course for incoming EMT and Paramedic students.
+ Assist the program director with ensuring and maintaining accreditation standards.
Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:
+ State of Ohio Paramedic. Will consider Registered Nurses in the State of Ohio with pre-hospital experience.
+ Nationally Registered Paramedic upon hire or within one year of employment.
+ Three years of experience as a Paramedic or RN.
+ Certifications required upon hire: AHA ACLS Provider, AHA PALS Provider and AHA BLS Provider
+ Certifications required upon hire or within six months of employment: AHA ACLS Instructor, AHA PALS Instructor and AHA BLS Instructor
+ Knowledge of computers and ability to become proficient with Platinum Planner student software.
Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:
+ Bachelor's degree.
+ Three years of previous teaching experience.
+ ITLS Instructor upon hire or within one year of employment.
**Physical Requirements:**
+ A high degree of dexterity to produce documents on a PC.
+ Normal or corrected vision, hearing and speech.
+ Extensive sitting, standing and walking, occasional lifting or carrying up to 25 pounds.
**Personal Protective Equipment:**
+ Follows Standard Precautions using personal protective equipment as required.
