Telephone Operator

**Job Description:**

In this position, the Switchboard Operator provides processing of all inbound calls from the public at large and internal users, providing general information and caller connecting support through use of the telephone system

**This is a PRN position.** The department is 24/7 — days, evenings, nights, weekends, holidays. Although evening and night shifts are most common.

+ Answers incoming switchboard calls in the order they're received.

+ Assists caller: answers questions, gives directions, transfers call or pages.

+ Answers the hospital emergency line, monitors Nurse Call and dispatches all emergencies.

+ Monitors and dispatches hospital facilities alarms.

+ Performs Resource Specialist duties (after-hours answering and contacting on-call providers,

+ after-hours triage, after-hours medical records requests, after-hours appointment scheduling).

Minimum Requirements

+ High School diploma or equivalent.

+ Ability to type 40 wpm

+ Ability to communicate effectively and diplomatically within a multi-functional team

+ Strong organizational skills and attention to detail

+ Ability to successfully function in a fast paced, service oriented environment with minimal face-to-face interaction.

+ Experience in understanding and usage of computers as well as the ability to learn applications relevant to the position

Sedentary-Primarily sitting/lifting 10 lbs maximum

The hourly range for this position is listed below. Actual hourly rate dependent upon experience.

$16.83 - $21.88
