Cleveland Clinic's J5-1 Cardiovascular Stepdown Unit sees some of the most complex cardiac cases in the world. J5-1, along with J5-3 and J6-2, is dedicated to caring for patients receiving coronary artery bypass surgery, valve repair or replacement, and minimally invasive or off-pump coronary bypass surgery. In addition to the post-operative open heart patient population, this unit also cares for all cardiac related admissions, including Ventricular Assist Devices (LVAD/RVAD), and Total Artificial Hearts (TAH). J5-1 also takes patients that are actively weaning from ventilator support.

**A caregiver in this position works Days/Evening Rotation, from 7:00am-7:30pm or 3:00pm-11:30pm.**

A caregiver who excels in this role will:

+ Report abnormal findings or changes in physical, mental and emotional conditions to RN: vital signs, weights, assisting patients with personal care and activities of daily living, patient transfers/transport, pulse oximetry, point of care testing, dressing changes, application of external monitoring devices, and removal of urinary Foley Catheter.

+ Assist with keeping patients' rooms clean & orderly.

+ Demonstrate a positive, concerned and sensitive response in the workplace.

+ Maintain personal growth and development through the ongoing process of formal and informal education.

Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:

+ A high school diploma or GED.

+ State Tested Nursing Assistant (STNA)

+ Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association (AHA).

+ Demonstrate proficiency in applied mathematics & reading comprehension at minimum junior high level as scored on the employment assessment.

+ Nursing students who have recently completed a minimum of one clinical rotation as part of an accredited nursing school program may substitute the clinical rotation for the required experience.

**Physical Requirements:**

+ Requires full body motion to move and lift patients, manual finger dexterity with good eye-hand coordination; involves extensive standing and walking.

+ Medium Work - Exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.

+ Physical Demand requirements are in excess of those for Light Work.

**Personal Protective Equipment:**

+ Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required.
