Advanced R&D Engineer/Scientist

An excellent career opportunity is currently available for an Advanced R&D Scientist within UOP's New Materials Research Group located in Des Plaines, IL. In this role, you will have the opportunity to lead the development of innovative materials for UOP's catalyst and adsorbent business portfolio. You will enhance our fundamental understanding through rigorous and creative materials synthesis, characterization, and performance evaluation. You will collaborate across various R&D departments to devise comprehensive strategies for technology commercialization.

Key Responsibilities:

+ Drive Innovation in the synthesis and development of new materials to uncover fundamental chemistries that advance UOP's technology pipelines.

+ Lead and support research project teams specializing in heterogeneous catalysis and adsorption.

+ Propose new project ideas, develop project plans, and initiate new projects.

+ Utilize materials characterization and testing methods to establish synthesis-structure-property-performance relationships.

+ Stay updated on patent and open literature related to research programs and identify opportunities for research directions.

+ Document all innovative concepts and spearhead the generation of intellectual property.

+ Collaborate with other departments within UOP to ensure robust R&D initiatives and foster new collaborations.

+ Communicate key project findings to cross-functional teams and ensure thorough documentation of progress.

+ Participate in departmental safety activities and prioritize safety protocols..

The annual base salary range for this position is $108,000 - $135,000. Please note that this salary information serves as a general guideline. Honeywell considers various factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to the scope and responsibilities of the position, the candidate's work experience, education and training, key skills, as well as market and business considerations.

YOU MUST HAVE

+ Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in a technical discipline, such as Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics.

+ Minimum of 4 years of experience in inorganic materials synthesis.

WE VALUE

+ Bachelor degree with 4+ years industrial experience in inorganic materials synthesis.

+ PhD in Chemistry, Materials Science or Chemical Engineering with 0+ years of industrial experience, focusing on synthetic chemistry.

+ Proven experience in materials discovery and development, particularly in catalysis or adsorption applications.

+ Familiarity with automated/high-throughput materials synthesis and lab digitization techniques.

+ Knowledge of zeolites, active alumina, and supported/unsupported metal oxides.

+ Strong passion for scientific innovation and commitment to fundamental research.

+ Ability to balance fundamental research and practical materials discovery to achieve project goals.

+ Effective verbal and written communication skills to convey scientific information.

+ Open, honest, and team-oriented personality.

+ Sense of urgency and a strong drive to achieve results.

+ Ability to direct laboratory work and eagerness to get involved in hands-on work.

+ Ability to occasionally meet virtually with team members and project stakeholders across time zones.
