Chief IP Counsel

The Chief Intellectual Property Counsel will maintain, develop and implement IQVIA’s strategy to protect, defend and capture the value of its intellectual property. This position will be responsible for leading the IP legal team (internal and external) and supporting IQVIA’s regional legal teams in their day-to-day legal work across all of the company’s global operations and working with the executive team and senior leaders around the world to ensure identification and protection of intellectual property. Key Responsibilities:

Maintain, develop and implement IQVIA’s strategy to protect, defend and capture the value of its intellectual property;

Lead the IP legal team (internal and external) and support regional legal teams in their day-to-day legal work across all of the Company’s global operations;

Work with the executive team and senior leaders around the world to ensure identification and protection of intellectual property that enhances competitive differentiation and protects IQVIA’s substantial investments in technology, analytics, methodologies and other forms of intellectual property;

Assist with IP agreements, M&A work, prosecution management, counseling, dispute resolution and law firm selection and management;

Oversee legal activities relating to the development and management of IQVIA’s patent and trademark portfolios;

Design and implement efficient and effective ways for employees to protect IQVIA’s intellectual property and respect the intellectual property of others;

Apply systems thinking to work with cross-functional teams to embed intellectual property protection in existing business processes in order to create organizational capability, enabling employees across the enterprise to properly manage intellectual property;

Consider ways to use technology-enabled business processes to produce metrics and dashboards to proactively assess IP management performance throughout the Company; and

Develop education programs (to socialize concepts) and training programs (to change behaviors) to enhance employee handling of intellectual property.

Qualifications and Skills:

• Bachelor’s degree and JD degree from an accredited school required;

• Minimum 12 years of experience as an intellectual property attorney;

• Admission to practice before the U.S. Patent Office preferred;

• Experience with information technology, big data, analytics and secondary uses of healthcare data preferred;

• Success building and implementing effective intellectual property programs;

• Ability to travel from time to time;

• Effective leader;

• Recognized by colleagues for integrity and reliability;

• Excellent oral and written communication skills, strong listening skills;

• Strong interpersonal skills, ability to work collaboratively and influence others, ability to communicate effectively with individuals at all levels of an organization;

• Self-starter, able to move initiatives forward to completion and achieve objectives;

• Ability to exercise good independent judgment, and effectively manage multiple priorities in a timely manner;

• Strong critical thinking and problem solving skills, ability to understand complex topics and identify the critical issues in a timely manner;

• Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail;

• Strong work ethic and ability to produce high quality work in a timely manner;

• Driven by intellectual curiosity and an eagerness to learn; and

• Positive, “can-do” attitude.

The potential base pay range for this role, when annualized, is $174,400.00 - $323,800.00. The actual base pay offered may vary based on a number of factors including job-related qualifications such as knowledge, skills, education, and experience; location; and/or schedule (full or part-time). Dependent on the position offered, incentive plans, bonuses, and/or other forms of compensation may be offered, in addition to a range of health and welfare and/or other benefits.
