EMT/Paramedic (FT) Varied Shifts Emergency Dept - Johnson City, TN

SCOPE OF POSITION
The EMT is responsible for providing patient care within the scope of the EMT certification and department guidelines. This individual will provide patient care that is appropriate to patient age and developmental level. 

For Team Members who are a member of the transport team, the EMT is responsible for safe transport of critically ill and injured patients. The EMT will provide transportation for patients for diagnostic testing needs, admitting and discharge purposes, other appointments as approved, and community reentry services. They will also transport a Specialty Care Transport Team from the Neonatal or Pediatric intensive care units to transport those patients to a prearranged facility. The EMT must be competent in the function of the vehicles chosen to drive.

For Team members in the Hospital Emergency Department, the EMT will provide direct patient care and supportive services to department, nursing and health care provider team under registered nurse supervision. Responsibilities include: bedside patient care, stocking supplies, maintaining equipment, routine housekeeping duties as needed, transportation of patients/residents as necessary, basic computer skills for documentation of care & procedures performed and for training and education needs.

Measures and records blood pressure, heart rate, respirations, temperature and informs the RN/nurse supervisor/charge nurse if not within normal limits for the patient.  Performs blood glucose monitoring.  Ability to use computer and basic clerical skills is a must. Performs other duties as deemed necessary and appropriate or as directed by the leader/manager.
Must meet education and training requirements of department.  Completes training/competency in specialty skills/procedures for department population as designated.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
High school diploma or equivalent required.
​Graduate of an accredited EMT course. Must exhibit critical thinking skills and ability to multi-task.
Valid and active Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) licensure/certification required for position within physician office
Valid and active Advanced Emergency Medical Technician (AEMT) or Basic Emergency Medical Technician (BEMT)
licensure/certification required for Ground Transport Team
Valid and active Advanced Emergency Medical Technician (AEMT) or EMT-Intermediate licensure/certification required for Hospital Emergency Department
AHA BLS, PALS, ACLS required
