General Summary
The RN - Nursing House Supervisor provides oversight and makes decisions related to patient care and throughput/flow. This includes directing and coordinating admissions and transfers to, from, and within the hospital. The Supervisor assists the Hospital’s leadership, management, and nursing team members in achieving organizational goals set to provide patient care while maintaining the organization’s strategic plan. This individual will facilitate professional relationships between all levels of Nurse Leaders, Nursing Team Members, MD Connect/Transfer Center, Medical Staff, admitting department, and interdisciplinary teams to provide patient/room assignment based on patient diagnosis, acuity, Provider orders, and patient throughput/flow. The Supervisor will be able to recognize dynamics of change and respond appropriately within the context of professionalism. He/she demonstrates sensitivity and understanding of the diverse cultural backgrounds of patients and caregivers. The Supervisor will be expected to function among all nursing units to allow for the enhancement of evidence-based practice and continuity of patient care throughout the healthcare continuum. This position will be a resource and act as a role model and coach to all nursing team members to optimize patient outcomes. The RN- Nursing House Supervisor will require leadership and critical thinking skills. He/she will be responsible for engaging the nursing team to provide evidence-based practice, promoting desired patient outcomes and ensuring that practice is congruent with Ballad Health’s policy, procedures, standards of care, and quality outcomes.
If applicable, the Supervisor will work closely with the Nurse Managers and Team Coordinators during normal business hours for patient care issue resolution influencing hospital and departmental operations. This individual will articulate issues and/or problems to Nurse Managers, Directors, and Administrative team with recommendations for solutions. Decisions must reflect knowledge of department and organizational goals and strategies. On nights and weekends this position functions as the senior in-house decision-maker for the hospital.
The Supervisor is responsible and accountable for the care of the assigned patients and directs others to assure patient care is facilitated to achieve optimal outcomes. The Supervisor is expected to practice autonomously within the scope of professional standards, the rules, and regulations established by the Tennessee or Virginia Board of Nursing, and knowledge of policies and procedures within Ballad Health. The Supervisor actively participates in patient care quality and performance improvement through data collection, aggregation and analysis of quality indicators. This commitment to quality results in the development and implementation of action plans to include the monitoring of the effectiveness of improvements. The Supervisor will serve as a professional role model as a caregiver, mentor, teacher and resource for peers and other providers.
Education
College degree required. BSN preferred. Health care related Bachelors' degree or associate nursing degree required. Preferably the RN with an Associate Degree will be actively pursuing a Bachelors' degree from an accredited school.
Minimum of three to five years clinical experience, with nursing supervision preferred.
This individual will demonstrate behavior consistent with the Standards of Conduct, professionalism, clinical nursing skills and knowledge of patient care delivery models, effective communication and teaching skills, ability to organize and prioritize effectively, knowledge of Ballad Health's policy and procedures & organizational structure, knowledge of the budget for each nursing unit and system, understanding of disaster procedures, effective critical thinking, decision-making, leadership skills to enhance outcomes, and accountability for ethical and professional practice standards as defined by the State Specific Board of Nursing (TN or VA).
License/Certifications
- Valid and active RN licensure in appropriate state (TN/VA)
- AHA BLS required
- ACLS, PALS, NRP required dependent upon area assigned
