The Impact You’ll Make in this RoleAs a Research Engineer-Vacuum Coating, you will have the opportunity to tap into your curiosity and collaborate with some of the most innovative and diverse people around the world. Here, you will make an impact by:
+ Effectively operating as a critical member of a technology development team
+ Developing vacuum coating expertise to support research and scaleup operations
+ Identifying and developing new process technologies through experimentation and driving their implementation to impact 3M
+ Effectively documenting, communicating, and disseminating research results to team members, business partners, and technology stakeholders
+ Driving successful technology scale-up from laboratory to manufacturing and assisting with troubleshooting process and product quality issues
Your Skills and Expertise To set you up for success in this role from day one, 3M requires (at a minimum) the following qualifications:
+ Bachelor’s degree or higher (completed and verified prior to start)
Additional qualifications that could help you succeed even further in this role include:
+ Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, Mechanical Engineering, Physics, Materials Science or related discipline from an accredited institution
+ Experience as a process engineer in a laboratory or manufacturing environment
+ Hands-on knowledge of vacuum coating processes
+ Experience with design software and statistically designed experiments
+ Experience using analytical equipment and interpreting/communicating results
+ Inquisitive, able to work well with others as part of new process technology/product development, comfortable working in a highly technical environment
Work location:
+ 3M Center, Maplewood, MN
Travel: May include up to 5% domestic/international
Relocation Assistance: May be authorized

Applicable to US Applicants Only:The expected compensation range for this position is $95,825 - $117,120, which includes base pay plus variable incentive pay, if eligible. This range represents a good faith estimate for this position. The specific compensation offered to a candidate may vary based on factors including, but not limited to, the candidate’s relevant knowledge, training, skills, work location, and/or experience.
