Senior Hardware Engineer

Microsoft Silicon, Cloud Hardware, and Infrastructure Engineering (SCHIE) is the team behind Microsoft’s expanding Cloud Infrastructure and responsible for powering Microsoft’s “Intelligent Cloud” mission. SCHIE delivers the core infrastructure and foundational technologies for Microsoft's over 200 online businesses including Bing, MSN, Office 365, Xbox Live, Teams, OneDrive, and the Microsoft Azure platform globally with our server and data center infrastructure, security and compliance, operations, globalization, and manageability solutions.

We are looking for a **Senior Hardware Engineer** to join the team.

Our team collaborates across different organizations in Azure to build in-house custom hardware. We immensely value culture, mentorship, and acting as a unified team.

As Microsoft's cloud business continues to grow the ability to deploy new offerings and hardware infrastructure on time, in high volume with high quality and lowest cost is of paramount importance. To achieve this goal, team is instrumental in defining and delivering operational measures of success for hardware manufacturing, improving the planning process, quality, delivery, scale and sustainability related to Microsoft cloud hardware.

**Responsibilities**

+ Lead design of awesome hardware.

+ Work with internal and external partners to define and specify HW solution requirements.

+ Perform & review Schematic Entry in Cadence tools.

+ Be able to review and guide PCB Layout for high-speed, and high and low power designs.

+ Support BOM Creation & Manufacturing requirements.

+ Create bring-up, test and validation plans to ensure robust hardware.

+ Execute bring-up tests and debug hardware reports.

+ Collaborate with partners to ensure systems meet significant quality, reliability, and service level requirements for a cloud environment.

**Qualifications**

**Required Qualifications**

+ 7+ years of technical engineering experience

+ o OR Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field AND 5+ years of technical engineering experience

+ o OR Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field AND 3+ years of technical engineering experience

+ o OR Doctorate degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field.

+ 5+ years’ experience with Cadence EDA tools

+ 5+ years’ experience designing PCB and PCBA for Cloud Servers

+ 5+ years experience with FPGA/CPLD RTL and Test Bench

**Other Requirements**

Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings: Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud Background Check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter. 

**Preferred Qualifications**

· 5+ years’ experience developing HW component and system level specifications

· Experience with high-speed and high-power design

· Experience developing HW verification and functional test plans

· Experience working across disciplines and organizations to resolve complex issues

· Experience with high volume hardware production.

· Experience with cost/time/risk tradeoff analysis relative to time to market.

· Experience with bleeding edge hardware design.

Hardware Engineering IC4 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $117,200 - $229,200 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $153,600 - $250,200 per year.
