This role will guide business decisions for our existing 10,000 North America Store Portfolio through the use of data analytics. This role will discover, measure, and optimize, leveraging data analytics to help shape the future direction of our existing store portfolio. The role will apply research, statistics, experimental design, synthesize, analyze, implement, and deploy models, dashboards, and storytelling presentations that support Starbucks Existing Store Strategy. You will lead data analysts and decision scientists in best practice and data prep techniques.

**_As a Lead Manager Decision Science, you will…_**

+ Models leadership behaviors that are grounded in Starbucks Mission and Values.

+ Drives the engagement, development and performance of all members of their team.

+ **Business Understanding** : Thorough understanding of business jargon and key metrics. Works with business stakeholders to identify and clarify core problems and questions of interest. Leverages tactics like "five whys" to create the best and most optimal solutions. Mentor data analysts and decision scientists in best practice around gaining a deep understanding of business asks.

+ **Data Visualization** : Work under consultative or self-initiated direction to assess and produce relevant, standard, or custom information (reports, charts, graphs and tables) from structured data sources by querying data repositories and generating the associated information. Distribute and disseminate reports to applicable agencies, researchers, management and other internal end-users. Skilled communication and data presentation and storytelling skills. Mentor/instruct decision scientists and data analysts in best practice and privacy/security in visualization techniques.

+ **Insights Operationalization** : Effectively presents complex technical material to non-technical audiences in an approachable way. Provide analytic validation and application of data transformations, algorithms, etc.) to accurately represent the model and rule intent and promote recommendations into business processes. Drive analytics refresh exercise and rule tuning process as they pertain to KPIs. Instructs decision scientists and data analysts in best practice for insights operationalization into business.

+ **Data manipulation and modeling** : Ability to procure and manipulate large-scale, complex data from a variety of systems, experience reshaping data to ensure it is in right structure for analysis, filtering and removal of outliers., Demonstrated experience with cloud tech for data and analytics solutions. Should be able to spot anomalies and data issues and work cross functionally to resolve. Manage in the development of other decision scientists to profile unfamiliar data sources, and preparation steps for analysis.

+ **Data Preparation** : Execute extraction and synthesis of data extract data from various databases. Perform exploratory data analysis, cleanse, massage, and aggregate data (high). Process 1st, 2nd, and 3rd party customer data in next generation privacy compliant infrastructure. Mentor/instruct data analysts and decision scientists in best practice and privacy/security compliant data prep techniques.

+ **Data methodologies and analysis** : Applicable business experience and ability to conduct statistical analysis and modeling techniques, including descriptive and predictive analysis, dashboard building, ability to determine the best methods to solve data problems, and skilled experience in Excel, SQL, R, Python, Tableau / PowerBI, and experimental design platforms. Skilled in using data methodologies and skills in accordance with business applicability and insights operationalization.Coaches team through code and methodology selection.

+ **Leadership and Evangelism** Outstanding collaboration skills with colleagues at all organizational levels; understands decision sciences and advanced analytics, and how to evangelize the craft to both business partners and Analytics and Insights peers. Multiply within team the zeal and passion for the craft, compounded by the functional business actionability.

**_We’d love to hear from people with:_**

+ Education: Masters/MBA preferred.BA/BS concentration preferred with discipline in Stats, Math, Comp Sci, Engineering, Ecom, Psychology, Quantitative Social Science, or similar

+ Skilled experience with Microsoft Office, including Excel and PowerPoint

+ Strong Proficiency with SQL, SAS, Python or R

+ Skilled knowledge of statistics (descriptive, regression, etc.)

+ Business experience with several data visualization tools (e.g., Tableau, Power BI)

+ Experience leading, coaching and developing teams

+ 5+ years of experience in data analytics, decision science or similar

*If you are working in CA, CO, IL, LA, ME, MA, NE, ND or RI, you will accrue vacation up to a maximum of 120 hours (190 in CA) for roles below director and 200 hours (316 in CA) for roles at director or above. For roles in other states, you will be granted vacation time starting at 120 hours annually for roles below director and 200 hours annually for roles director and above.

The actual base pay offered to the successful candidate will be based on multiple factors, including but not limited to job-related knowledge/skills, experience, geographical location, and internal equity. At Starbucks, it is not typical for an individual to be hired at the high end of the range for their role, and compensation decisions are dependent upon the facts and circumstances of each position and candidate.
