Athletic Trainer School Based

**Job Description:**

This position operates in a college or professional setting with primary assignment to support the medical needs of the school/pro team, while promoting the Intermountain Sports Medicine programs. Under the supervision of the team physicians, this position will provide medical coverage, both "on-the-field" and in the training room for injured athletes during practices and events. Such duties may also extend to assist other local high schools, college settings, community sporting events, and regional sporting camps/activities. Understanding that this position is exempt and will have variable working hours.

**Scope**

Works Independently with an assigned Primary team, while also supporting Secondary team and the larger Sports Medicine team for all athletes on University campus or within the Professional Organization; which includes central training room coverage for all athletes. Travels with assigned Primary sports team, as well as possible Secondary team, will include extended road trips, and atypical work hours/schedule; numerous weekends, early and late hours.

This position will be working with a Division 1 MBB program at Utah Tech.

**Job Essentials:**

+ Must understand and keep up to date with NCAA or Professional League regulations/guidelines related to medical care; also adheres to state and federal regulations; including keeping accurate insurance information of student athletes and documentation on all injuries.

+ Fosters key relationships for both Intermountain and the University or Professional Organization; including attendance at staff meetings and participation in team lectures and educational in-services.

+ Carries out rehabilitation program independently after athlete or patient has been evaluated and treatment plan has been established. When evaluation has been completed by ATC, PT or team physician, patient or athlete will be treated as per protocol.

+ Accountable for all care coordination and rehabilitation navigation until full return to sport;

+ Assesses and administers first aid to injured athletes during practices and sporting events and completes the appropriate documentation.

+ After evaluation of all injuries, makes appropriate physician referral when needed.

+ Oversees the operation of the training room ensuring that appropriate levels of supplies are maintained, maximal coverage is provided, and that the training room maintains a professional atmosphere.

+ Communicates effectively with coaches, school administration, parents, athletes, patients, physicians, therapist as well as other sports medicine team members; specifically meeting all requirements for daily injury reporting status in compliance with NCAA or Professional League guidelines.

+ Maintains accurate records of all evaluations, referrals, and treatments administered to patients or athletes.

+ Actively engages in the implementation of marketing strategies of the Intermountain Sports Medicine Programs.

+ Regional or hospital specific events may include community events such as road or bike races, Iron Man, Huntsman World Senior games, all-star tournaments, health fairs, or other like events not specified.

+ Has ownership and oversight of Value in Kind and other advertising items that may apply, such as ensuring announcements are read at games, Ads in the athletic programs, posting banners, signs and posters where appropriate, other like items not specified.

+ Invests in developing strong relationships with Key Stakeholders, including but not limited to; Athletic Director and staff, School and Organizational Administration and Faculty, Coaching Staff, Boosters, and Parents.

+ Strategies to include but not limited to; attending school faculty, administrative, and coaching staff meetings, organize and present in-services, lectures and educational opportunities as appropriate; organize and conduct seasonal physicals and coaches conferences as appropriate; participation in off season sport camps and training as appropriate.

+ Invests in developing strong relationship with associated physicians and physical therapists.

+ Participates and commits to furthering the growth of Intermountain Sports Medicine Programs, improving our market share by influencing greater number of athletes and non-athletes (i.e., Key Stakeholders) to our participating providers. Also includes attending necessary Sports Medicine staff meetings and trainings.

+ Maintains a clean, safe, and professional environment at the clinics and school. Inform supervisor of any malfunctioning equipment.

+ Ensures that proper return to play criteria is met before allowing participation by athlete or patient, ensuring that the best interest of the athlete or patient is always the first priority.

**Minimum Qualifications**

+ Experience working in school/community setting as an Athletic Trainer

+ Bachelor's degree. Education must be obtained from an accredited institution. Degree will be verified.

+ Current athletic trainer license in state of practice.

+ National athletic trainer certification. (NATA-BOC)

+ Basic Life Support (BLS) for healthcare providers

+ Demonstrated effective verbal and written communication skills.

+ Working knowledge of MS Office, MS Excel and PowerPoint.

+ Demonstrated effectiveness with interpersonal relationships (i.e., athletes, school administrators and coaches, physicians, etc.).

+ Availability to travel, ability to organize and be flexible to coach’s needs.

**Preferred Qualifications**

+ Experience as an Athletic Trainer at a college, university or with a professional team.

+ Master’s degree in Athletic Training or related field.

+ Two years of experience working in school/community setting as an Athletic Trainer

+ Working knowledge of NCAA Independent or Professional League Medical Practice, NATA position statements, EAP for venues.

The hourly range for this position is listed below. Actual hourly rate dependent upon experience.

$28.15 - $43.42
