JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

The Office of Research Marketing & Communications (http://ist.psu.edu/about/offices/communications) within OSVPR (Office of the Senior Vice President for Research) is seeking a part-time staff member to support the activities around the annual Research Magazine. This position will work approximately 10-20 hours per week.

The rebranded Research Magazine represents the annual culmination of the strengths of our research enterprise, and also constitutes a powerful asset for our strategies around partnering, sponsoring, development and commercialization of research. The content is curated with a high level of participation from our colleges, institutes and research units.

This position will be key in executing various steps in the annual cycle, against set timelines, to ensure a smooth culmination and distribution of the magazine.

Assignments will be within key areas:

+ Assist with content curation for the annual research magazine.

+ Interact with marketing & communications liaisons within colleges, institutes and units to gather content recommendations

+ Tracking of recommendations

+ Interacting with the graphic designer

+ Circulating proofs and gathering feedback from stakeholders

+ Interacting with printer regarding specifications, schedule, hard-copy proofs, and bulk distribution

+ Planning the recipient list and distribution strategies

+ Receipt of portion of the magazines and distribution within Penn State

+ Gathering feedback and assisting with the planning of next cycle

This position requires an understanding of the Microsoft Office Suite. It would be a plus to have experience in Adobe or project-management software platforms, knowledge of the design and/or printing process, and bonus to be familiar with the framework of the Penn State research enterprise (knowledge of our colleges, institutes, research support units).

This is a remote (or on-site) position with opportunities for local hires to join in-person meetings and team gatherings. Candidates should plan to be available for meetings during business hours (8-5, M-F), but a bulk of the work can be completed on a flexible schedule. The candidate should be self-directed with an ability to organize and prioritize their work to meet established deadlines. Expected hours per week are 10-20.
