Director Finance Sibley Memorial Hospital

SUMMARY

The Director of Finance for Sibley Memorial Hospital is a dual-reporting position that oversees Sibley's financial operations in one or more functional areas. This position is responsible for all financial aspects and will provide senior management with financial reports and overall financial management necessary for the fiscally prudent operation of each area. The position will be an integral part of the management of the functional area and will ensure the development of a strong finance team through the mentoring of key individuals within the department.

REPORTING RELATIONSHIP

The position reports to the CFO of NCR.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Responsibilities may include but not be limited to oversight of the following Sibley financial functions within the designated functional area(s):

  1. Development and review of the functional area(s)’ finance staff
  2. Annual operating and capital budgets
  3. Financial analysis of actual and budgeted performance
  4. Providing monthly accruals and budget variance explanations to General Accounting
  5. Production and maintenance of the monthly financial statements and reports
  6. Revenue reconciliation, billing, and charge entry
  7. Research project administration and accounting (including grant submissions, effort reporting, and cost transfers)
  8. Program/product development analysis
  9. Develop and/or monitor compliance with Sibley financial policies, internal controls, and internal audit recommendations
  10. Oversee budget development for all JHM entities under the scope of the functional area assigned ensuring that the combined whole is accurate and complete. Monitor and address budget variances
  11. Develop and enforce departmental financial policies and internal controls. Work independently with limited supervision.
  12. Manages staff and has responsibility for hiring, firing, and performance management
  13. Resolve issues that block process; Identify appropriate communication channels; Primary responsibility for financial issues of assigned JHM entities; Must ensure accuracy of data and quality of service. Utilize techniques of financial analysis to identify, plan, develop, implement and monitor financial strategies and resolutions to problem areas
  14. Develop and interpret a variety of financial reports which may include: Income statements, balance sheets, statement of cash flows; Ratio interpretation, financial performance monitoring for Sibley/Suburban as well as prospective external partners

Education & Experience:

  • CPA or Masters Degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required, offset by equivalent experience
  • Minimum ten years of progressive experience in financial planning and analysis, Hospital experience is required.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Extensive knowledge of corporate finance as it relates to all aspects of health care which may include the following: Budget processes; Financial analysis for health care programs and projects; Hospital and physician billing procedures and systems; Cost accounting principles; Managed care pricing; Monthly financial reporting; Management and development of staff; Sponsored Projects accounting including grant submissions; UHC Benchmarking and other tools (DSM, Product Line Profitability Reports, etc.).
  • Evaluate and manage financial models and applications including internal controls and staffing model; Management and development of all finance staff within the assigned functional area(s); Manage and direct all financial related areas: oversee development of budgets for each individual entity within the scope of the assigned functional area; Oversee reconciliation of billing and collection activity; Work independently and meet aggressive time frames; Manage several projects simultaneously; Responsible for overall financial report accuracy and timeliness; Prepare oral and/or written presentations to senior and executive management.
