Supervisor Wound & Hyperbaric

Novant Health Wound & HBO is seeking a Clinical Supervisor

In partnership with the Clinic Administrator, ensures implementation and success of NHMG goals, organizes and directs the clinical environment, and coordinates teams to assure effective care is given to provide quality wound and hyperbaric care following evidence based practice standards in the specialty. Serves as a leader of the healthcare team at Novant Health by establishing an authentic personalized relationship with the patient and their chosen support system, collaborating with physicians and other team members to assess, plan, implement, delegate and evaluate an individualized plan of care that promotes optimal health or supports a peaceful death. The Registered Nurse accepts responsibility, authority, and accountability for management and provision of care in accordance with the current policies and procedures, chronic wound healing guidelines and UHMS hyperbaric standards. The Registered Nurse gives feedback and evaluations to team continuously to monitor appropriate team members for positions and promote employee and customer satisfaction.

Leadership: Maintains standards of care by collaborating with physicians, managers and clinical team members to ensure cost effective, quality care based on the patients psychosocial status, physical limitations, comorbidities and support system. Utilizes expertise to provide education and guidance for other healthcare providers. Works in partnership with other leaders to create, support and maintain a culture of professional accountability. Assures team meets all competence and regulatory requirements and participates in the development of competency measures. Educates team members on competency requirement changes. Participates in skills validation. Monitors team member compliance with competency requirements. Implements corrective measures for non-compliance. Grows and nurtures team members. Creates and maintains a healthy work environment that results in improved patient outcomes, team member retention, and organizational excellence. Facilitates decision making within the clinic with critical thinking and role models leadership skills that include: problem-solving skills, appropriate delegation, time management/organization skills, conflict resolution skills, critical-thinking skills, and collaborative skills. Mentors team members in development of leadership skills and maximizes their potential. Acts with honesty and integrity with team members and patients/families, showing and speaking with respect for the rights of others, human dignity, and diversity. Makes decisions in a timely manner. Coordinates the provision of patient care through delegation, problem solving, time management and organizational skills. Assures that team members provide care that is consistent with JCAHO, UHMS, ABWM and the Wound Healing Society. Actively participates in team meetings and promotes collegial relationships with physicians and other professional groups. Removes barriers for staff to assure optimal patient safety and satisfaction. Functions as the safety director of level II hyperbaric facility. Responsible for the safety of all patients and team members during hyperbaric operations. Responsible for all equipment and daily operations according to the NFPA 99 Chapter 20 regulations regarding hyperbaric facilities. Develops, coordinates and evaluates monthly safety drills and discussions. Responsible for collaborating with physician and approving any items deemed necessary for patient's care prior to entry into the hyperbaric chamber. Responsible for interviewing, hiring and management of clinical team members including performance reviews. Creates and maintains clinical competency tools for wound/hyperbaric procedures. Monitors and maintains resource utilization and core operational processes. Creates and maintains clinical competency tools for wound/hyperbaric procedures. Creates and maintains scheduling templates and staffing levels for two clinics. Responsible for tissue management according to NH policy

Assessment: Demonstrates refined assessment skills to collaboratively discover the patient's story, integrating the following elements: subjective data, objective data, physical picture, psychosocial components, personal preferences and norms, and learning needs and preferences. Must be able to utilize an ongoing process to interpret data and recognize patterns and trends to determine both immediate and future care needs. Utilizes expertise in the assessment of chronic non-healing wounds and documenting findings accordingly.

Planning: Collaborates with the interdisciplinary team, patient and caregivers to identify individualized needs and preferences and assist with the development of the plan of care. Collaborates with physician, managers, home health agencies, DME companies and medical supply companies to coordinate patient care. Prioritizes interventions to advance the patient toward optimal health or support a peaceful death. Ongoing modification of care plan based on patient's needs, capabilities, and condition. Assist clinic administrator with future clinic planning and staffing needs.

Implementation: Acts with patient advocacy at the core of nursing care when implementing the interdisciplinary plan of care. Collaborates with healthcare team to educate patient and their support system. Identifies patient learning needs, incorporates into care by providing education and counsel to patients, and documents patient understanding. Analyzes, modifies, and implements strategies to progress the patient through their plan of care. Ensures completion of nursing interventions, medical orders, and other related therapies, using approved policies/procedures/protocols. Possesses the ability to prioritize job duties according to changing acuity levels. Performs patient transfers and transports patients via wheelchair. Ability to lift and carry various equipment. Ability to perform in critical situations including administering CPR. Helps to facilitate care provided is consistent with policies, procedures and telephone triage protocols, in cooperation with the physician. Able to function in emergency situations and facilitates the care provided for all patients. Makes patient referrals as directed by the provider and reviews all incoming referrals for appropriateness. The role involves working in a team based patient centered environment. Develops, educates and implements quality improvement processes.

Delegation: Appropriately delegates to ensure patient safety, considering the nature of the task, competence of the delegate, and the patient's response. Demonstrates commitment to quality patient care by holding self and others accountable for optimal role performance. Delegates or assigns patient care to appropriate health care team members commensurate with their validated competency to perform the task, evaluates outcomes. Supervises, teaches clinical team, and provides feedback, as needed. Assists in orientation of new team members and serves as a resource person and professional role model, within scope of practice. Assists with assuring competencies of clinical staff.

Performance Accountability/Evidence-Based Practice: Identifies opportunities for process improvement, incorporates evidence-based practice and research. Engage in self-reflection and develop personal goals to enhance knowledge, obtain professional certification or pursue academic degree as strategies to promote professional growth. Integrate gained knowledge into practice.

Teamwork: Develops and maintains positive relationships with team members/internal customers. Consistently demonstrates a willingness to adjust activities to accommodate the needs of team members/internal customers. Develops team members through mentoring, precepting, orientation, and providing feedback. Resolves conflicts independently, as appropriate. Accepts responsibility for actions and responds positively upon feedback from others. Utilizes data received from patient satisfaction and practice performance results to identify opportunities to improve and participates in the planning and improvement process.

Partners with family and patients to resolve concerns related to the delivery of health care. Communicates with and involves the team through regular dialogue with all team members. Utilizes communication methods and tools to deliver information that improves quality of personal and organizational decisions. Ensures timely and consistent communication. Clinical Lab Duties: Ensures all routine, daily, monthly, and annual maintenance and QC are performed, documented and kept for the appropriate number of years. Collaborates with lab liaison to ensure lab specific regulations are upheld.

Non-Clinical Duties: Records employee’s time and attendance. Records employee’s tardiness and absentee. Creates and maintains departmental policies and procedures. Develops weekly staffing plans for two clinic locations to ensure patient to staff ratio is appropriate. Orders supplies and maintains appropriate par levels. Supports an environment that respects diversity Provides accurate and consistent communication. Responsible for interviewing and hiring clinical team members. Monitors and maintains resource utilization and core operational processes.

Quality Improvement: Collaborates with the clinic administrator and physician to recognize and communicate opportunities for improvement related to best operational efficiencies in the physician practice setting. Embraces change and acts as a change agent. Monitors quality of completion of core processes in the department.

+ Education: RN licensure required. Bachelor's degree preferred.

+ Experience: 3 years Nursing experience required. 2 year Supervisory experience required.

+ Licensure/Certification: Current RN licensure in appropriate state required. Hyperbaric certification required. Wound Care certified preferred.

+ Additional skills required: Attend 40 hour UHMS approved Introduction to Hyperbaric Medicine Course. Attend UHMS approved Safety Director course. Hyperbaric certification when eligible.

+ Additional skills preferred: Wound certification when eligible.
